[Introductory note: Electric Picnic 2005. I had only a couple of minutes notice I’d be talking to Wayne Coyne. No time to prepare questions. So I got to thinking, you know, the guy is always so cheerful and upbeat all the time – maybe, just maybe, it’s all a massive con.

My idea in this interview was to say anything I could possibly think of that might irritate, annoy, anger or depress him. I ended up hanging out with Wayne a couple of hours. It’s a wet and freezing Thursday night and Thomas Street is teeming with young, attractive things – presumably students from NCAD – raucously celebrating… something or other. When you’re young and attractive, I suppose, what other excuse do you need?

Aidan and I are a little older, but not necessarily any the wiser. The pubs are mobbed so we duck down Francis Street and stick our heads in the door of the Liberty Belle.
