GENO (1980)

From the album Searching for the Young Soul Rebels. I was actually trying to find Seven Days Is Too Long (from the same album), but the only version of it on YouTube cannot be embedded for some reason. (You can listen to it here.) However, while searching for Seven Days is Too Long I did come across this. No disrespect to the guy, but I think Laptopsdirect’s returns policy is the least of his worries!

    Its “Wolverine origins”!
    or maybe “Wolverine..the later years”.

    Wolverine… the Dutch Gold Years!

I love that album. Tell Me When My Light Turns Green is a great song, too.

Lauren, I love the album too. My favourite track definitely Seven Days is Too Long. I know it’s a Northern Soul cover, but there’s something so joyous in what should ostensibly be a sad song. And Rowland makes it totally his own, alternating between alpha male and shrinking violet (“I REFUSE to break up / oh but I’m too weak to fight….”)

I think I actually prefer the Dexys version to the original. Yeah, he’s a bit of an underrated genius, I think… pity he went a bit bonkers there. Although when they played Vicar Street a few years ago, he was in flying form.
