Ghosts of my home town

Here’s a short story I wrote for The Racket. (Above, a photo I took of Urlaur Abbey last week. My great-grandparents’ grave is visible, in side profile, about half a centimetre to the left hand side of the tree.)

Jayz, it almost sounds like you hadn’t had much sleep, there, Eoin.

No, just a crappy mp3 recorder. It’s actually the finished recording in which I hadn’t slept the night before!

My Dads family came to the USA in the 1700s , to Virginia and then to Benton County Tenn. and then to East Prairie MO on the Mississippi river. There they stayed. One of the last things he did before he himself died at 93 was to put a stone on the grave of his Grandfather and GD.mother, Isaac Newton Presson and his wife Caroline Hale Presson . They were all probably Dutch and Scot.. Glad to see you know where your kin are buried. A prayer for them. S.

Hey Eoin, brilliant, I love your writing. Hey why don’t the Irish times use you for something more interesting than interviewing supermodels? I could read that stuff you write about your hometown all day. Best, Deirdre
