This is what a Reddit traffic spike looks like…

Possibly of interest only to other bloggers but, for what it’s worth, here’s what a Reddit web traffic spike looks like. Tripping Along the Ledge gets roughly a thousand hits a day on weekdays, falling to about a half of that number at weekends. (The depression in the middle of that graph is where I took ten days’ sabbatical.) Last night, I published a blog post about Sinead O’Connor. It immediately began to generate large volumes of incoming traffic from my Twitter feed. On a whim, I submitted it to Reddit. Within two hours, it had topped their atheism forum and was attracting comments from every corner of the world. By morning it was the site’s fifth most upvoted submission overall. It stayed in the top ten until late afternoon. The height of the surge, hits were coming in at a rate of around a hundred per minute. By this evening, I was exchanging friendly emails with Sinead O’Connor. (She didn’t like one or two of your comments.)
The wonders of the feckin’ internet, huh!

Congratulations, I foresee you using Reddit more in the future.
And Sinead can forgive, I was just about to hit 15 in 1992, and because of my schooling I wasn’t a huge fan of the Catholic Church anyway. And I didn’t think she’d be bloody reading the comments on your site.
Beats most Mondays, eh?

It was a million to one shot… An Irish story of Irish relevance happened simultaneously to be an American story of American relevance… I’ll submit my next pub review and we’ll see how far that gets!

Also Colin, how the hell were you 15 in 1992? I was 12. You must have stayed back about a million times!?

1977 was a good year, damn good year.
And my Mom says I still look great. I’ll also take your shock as a compliment too, since you know me.

Kudos on the blog success Butler. How much do you earn per blog hit btw?

Did you really hear from Sinead O’Connor Eoin?
March 29th, 2010 at 11:41 pm
Amazingly, yes. She had a couple of issues with things people said in the comments, which have since been corrected, but was overall very appreciative. She is, I would have to say, a pretty cool lady.

Proud of you Eoin.
I too was wondering just how old Colin is, especially after an earlier post “ah yes, I remember 1992, that was the year …xyz…” All I can remember about 1992 is the fireworks of the European Championships and someone saying “they didn’t even qualify!!!”
