THIS IS FUNNY

Remember Max, the well-connected ‘gapper’ whose short-lived blog provoked such outpourings of bile on the Guardian’s website last year? Well imagine if young Max was back and was making music that was, like, a mixture of acoustic, funk, pop and light-hearted drum n’ base… Yeah? But it’s not a joke. Steve Appleton, apparently, is a 19-year-old singer-songwriter whose debut album, When The Sun Comes Up, is out in July on Sony Music. Yet there are moments when the guy’s twattishness is just so exquisitely manifested that, one has to suspect, either Messers Gervais, Morris or Brooker has had a hand in his creation.

But they haven’t. Steve is 100% genuine. His debut single Dirty Funk is out May 3rd and is predicted to be on of the hits of the summer. You can check out the video here. Think Andy Sandberg impersonating Chesney Hawkes. In a Heineken commercial. With a fake Jamaican accent. I really hope its not a hit. Because if it is, the world is going to crucify this kid.

Update: more on Steve Appleton here.

Holy shit, could be the easiest kid to hate since a dude from clongowes i went to the gaeltacht with in ’95. And I tell ya he was a wankstain and a half.

  2. Matt Says:

This guy is such a wankstain i kind feel protective of him, where are his parents? whos stopping him from being such an obvious dick? also, sure its not a piss take?

  3. Joe Says:

To be fair, not even jackie chan could have gotten over that fence. did you see the size of it?

  4. Eoin Says:

One of my friends emails to say:

“Meatloaf … I used to pop him in occasionally…” I bet you did son, I bet you did.

  5. Colin Says:

Thought this was a joke at first so looked him up and the wankstain is real.

He hits all the notes of being a wanker and tops it all off at the end by doing a football trick. The one which most pricks practiced as a kid.

  6. Jenny Says:

OMG what a tool… can this dude possibly be for real? he’s so david brent its uncanny e.g. “i’m not going over that fence. end of.”

  7. WBAndersen Says:

Sweet devine, my ears have started bleeding and my eyes now refuse light.

“Hes” like the love spawn of James Bunt, Chris Martin and Peter Andre.

Can’t you just feel the love?

  13. Pam Says:

Am I the only one that thought (having just seen that intro video), despite huge confidence (the charm of youth?), he’s actually quite an accomplished pianist? The fact he’s got talent and good looks seems to be annoying people perhaps feeling a tad envious… Welcome to the way pop music works! This clearly isn’t supposed to be high class art, one would suggest u get over it.

  14. Eoin Says:

Ah Pam, no. That’s not it at all.

  15. tracy Says:
