‘A German audience will stare at you stony-faced for the entire gig and then buy every T-shirt you have’

My wife likes to make a show of me by getting me to list the weirdest jobs I’ve had. When I was a kid I worked in Dunnes Stores in town. There was a strike on and I was supposed to be on strike duty. But I got a little nixer on the side, guarding a giant inflatable can of 7Up in the car park outside The Square in Tallaght. There were legions of kids harrassing me “What is it, mister?” “Can I kick it, mister?” “Can I burn it?”Read the rest of this article here.

Great interview. Stef is a legend of a guy.

He is a great guy. He and I had many, many pints during the course of that interview. The last hour, when I came to transcribe it, was total gibberish. I went straight from that interview to interviewing Ray Manzarek of the doors. Think I held it together. Hope I did.

P.S. About five minutes after I posted this comment, I met Stef and his manager Frank Murray at the bar in Whelans. Great guys, the pair of them.

I’m surprised Jagger didn’t bring the Bert on his recent world cup voyage. They have a lot more in common that you’d suspect those two.

Saw him and his band last August in Whelans. Great gig, great night. At the end of it went over to check out the CD, Stefan was in the middle of staring at some girl who was haggling over the price of the last CD. It was the usual 10 euro and she was being a bitch.

I offered 15. She fucked off. True Story.
