Finito

This is a piece I wrote about The Devil’s Double for The Guardian last weekend. I’m flattered someone took the time to set up, not one, but two comment accounts to defend Latif Yahia and his Walter Mitty-esque memoirs. But most of all, I’m glad that this is the last time I’ll be mentioning his name, here or anywhere else.

August 17th, 2011.

Great Movie.May it finally legitimise Latif as a true hero.

  2. Stan Says:

I for one think it is about time that you concluded your jealous attempts to denigrate a fine and courageious man who has done nothing to harm you. What is up with you, Eoin? Does the mere existence of Latif Yahia, who I have never met, cause you lack of sleep, psoriasis and many of the other unhygenic disorders from which David Black Knox has assured me you suffer? Time to judge for yourself, readers of this website. See The Devils Double and know the truth.

    Zzzzz…

  4. Damien M. Says:

Whom I have never met, but have glimpsed in the mirror from time to time.

  5. Áine Says:

But is the film any good?

  6. Eoin Says:

@ Damien – Haha. That’s what I’d have thought, yes.

@ Aine – I haven’t seen it but I’d like to. By all accounts, Dominic Cooper is very good.

  7. Albinicus Says:

Hey Stan! Since when is lack of sleep or psoriasis considered unhygenic? Both are caused by stress. Enough with the baseless allegations. Anyone would think your trying to make a name for yourself by means of spurious claims

  8. Eoin Says:

@ Albinicus – For the record, I don’t suffer any of those conditions. David Blake Knox has never met me and I’m 100% sure he never said any of that to “Stan”. As to who “Stan” is, well, I can take a guess.

  9. albinicus Says:

@Eoin Ya I just took umbrage with his unhygenic claim as I suffer from mild psoriases and it is not as a result of being unhygenic (a family bereavement being the catalyst in my instance). Also I think WE ALL KNOW WHO YOU ARE STAN!

  10. Eoin Says:

Opps. Turns out the “Stan” comment was left by a friend of mine taking the piss and not by who I thought it was. Apologies (through gritted teeth) to who I thought it was!

  11. Stan Says:

    OR AM I?????????!!!!!????!?11111/??

  12. Eoin Says:

    No Paul, you aren’t.

  13. David Sandford Says:

Joanna Cunningham met Latif in ’97 and claims she only heard about him doing double-time after they got married. The book (I was Sadam’s Son) was published in Germany 94. Who cares if she never took time to read her ex-husband’s book.

  14. Richard Lyons Says:

    1. The movie is great, an all time classic of the genre.

    2. Latif is probably hugely exaggerating.

    3. I don’t approve of the photos Latif put up of Joanna on his blog. Good looking woman, but no matter how much she may have fallen out with him the whole text on that blog reads like the words of a man undergoing a massive case of bipolar paranoia. Put it this way, the movie is great, the fictional Latif is a hero and the real man? I find him scary, because even if some of what he says is true he is clearly out of touch with reality and how to behave.
